So happy that you enjoyed my piece! I had a good time reading yours as well. I re-watched The Green Ray at a summer screening last year in a poorly AC'ed venue. But I felt it all worked out because it's a sweaty movie set in a sweaty country during a sweaty season haha.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and leave a comment, Chris—I'm so glad you enjoyed! That does sound like the aesthetically ideal (if less than comfortable) setting to watch The Green Ray. Rohmer is so great for summer.
What a beautiful description of Cape Cod! I haven't been, but it's reminding me of my own little island here on the west coast. The waters here don't feel mild to me at all, so I don't think I'd even dare step foot in the Atlantic 😂
Thank you, Maria! Your island sounds lovely—hopefully you’ll have lots of opportunities to enjoy the Pacific this summer, even if the water’s not so mild 😂
Thank you so much for the shoutout! Coincidentally, I was in Cape Cod for July 4! We live in Nashville but my partner has family in NY, so we all went. Such a gorgeous, picturesque place ❤️
After too many long bumper-to-bumpercar rides to the Cape, I became a denizen of the "Nawth Shaw". Newburyport and Salisbury for me. Plum Island, Parker River Wildlife Refuge. Roadside lobster rolls etc. Heaven.
You're right that a summer day on the Cape is beyond words. Joel Meyerowitz comes darn close with his photo collection "Cape Light". Fabulous!
Thanks Ramya for your lovely portrait from this native Bostonian transplant to southern CA. Lovely sunny beach days out here too and longer! ☀️🌴
Haha I definitely feel you about the bumper-to-bumper traffic, Baird! It’s somewhat less bad early on in the season and on a weekday, but “Nawth Shaw” has so much charm and beauty (and lobster rolls!), minus the crowds.
Joel Meyerowitz’s photos are really stunning and evocative—thank you for reminding me of them.
I envy your southern CA beaches! I lived in LA for a little bit as a small child and still have some lovely memories of the beaches there. Having been in Oregon for the past few weeks, there are some really stunning beaches up here as well!
