*crows in triumph* Ha! See? I KNEW you would give in to the siren call of free verse one day. And what a gorgeous poem to use it on! It reminds me of the writing of Mary Oliver, one of my all-time favorite poets.
“Your heart knows the lyrics to the song the bird is singing
Your heart knows as it never knew before
Simply to be and to observe is the adventure of a lifetime
I was here, I saw the flowers, I walked on”
Spring, whenever it finally decides to deign us with her presence (it’s supposed to be April showers, not April blizzards dang it!) has a way of forcibly throwing us back into action. And, how can we not move, venture outside and frolic among the cherry blossoms and sunshine after half a year of dreariness? You describe that feeling of potential and glee perfectly in your poem! What a treat to read, thank you!
haha free verse can be fun.... I guess.... sometimes.....
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Amelia! I'm so glad for the Mary Oliver comparison! and thank you so much as always for taking the time to read <3
"I was walking but secretly I was running, running
towards a future that ran just as fast towards me, open-armed and smiling
You begin, and then you begin again and again,
you are always beginning
I was pierced to the root with sweetness as I had never been before"
Amazing expression of pure joy! Well done Ramya!! 👏
Thank you, Baird, that means a lot to me—so glad you liked this poem!
